I’d like to hear from those of you that have used this in highschool. Did you use it for a credit in health? I’ve been looking at Food Renegade’s health and nutrition course, but found this in my highschool science notes and wonder how the two might overlap/contradict each other.

Do you find prerequisites necessary for this course? Is it appropriate for 8th grade, or better saved for later? We’ve not used any Apologia in our home. I’d appreciate insight.

My son has only used the Exploring Creation with Anatomy and Physiology. Either way, I doubt that it overlaps with Food Renegade’s materials, since hers is whole food/Weston Price/NT based and any textbook is not going to promote Weston Price/NT food principles.

We’re doing Food Renegade this next year.

Were you pleased with the Exploring A&P?

Yes, my son says it’s interesting; he’s learned much. He reads it slowly, absorbing it and doing the experiments. Re: the chapter on nutrition, he said it hardly talked about homogenization and pastuerization; it seems to be more about learning to read labels, what different vitamins and minerals are, etc. So I think it seems to be complementary to Food Renegade.

It’s a very independent thing for him; I don’t oversee that much. I bought him the journal so I could see what he is learning.

I don’t know how much help that was, but I think it is a good resource. My only concern is that I don’t think it would serve as a HS credit as it’s intended only for up to 6th gr., maybe 7th at the latest.

There is a high school anatomy book, Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, but that doesn’t include nutrition info. and it’s for 11th or so.

There is anatomy in the General science books:

Module #9 is What is Life? and goes into DNA and cells, etc.

Module #11 is Fearfully and Wonderfully MAde – anatomy

Module #12 has info. on metabolism and food, calories and food

Module #13 is on the Digestive System

Module #14 is the Respiratory system

Module #15 is the lymphatic system, endocrine and urinary

Module #16 is the Nervous system

SO, IMO, for your 8th gr. if you haven’t done Apologia General science, I’d skip the Apologia Human Anatomy book and do General science instead and also do the Food Renegade alongside.
