We are finishing up Book A and I now know that I have been going at handwriting the wrong way….I am wondering if I should just go back over Book A and apply the CM principles to it or move on to Book B and apply there? Do I even need the books? (I have the teacher’s manual)

    Thanks!

We have the books but haven’t used them in any consistent way.  Yet.  I’m planning to starting this summer with my 8yo sons.  I don’t think you need the books if you have the teacher’s manual and you’re willing to write the guide for what you want your children to copy, though it seems easier to have the workbooks already written out.  I would say don’t repeat Book A.  Go on to B or write your own material.

I’d love to hear how you plan to use it to comply with CM principles.  Will you share?

Having the workbooks makes it SO much easier.  The less teacher prep the better I say!  You can even get on their website and download blank lined paper that goes with each book.  I really like this program.

This may sound ridiculous but can you post the link to the blank lined paper?  I can’t find it.  I’ve looked several times but to no avail.

    Thanks!

I like the program as well and I think it would be less time consuming, I just have to slow down and practice quality : )

I would also like the link to the blank paper!

Hmm, hadn’t seen the Gardner book.  Can anyone share what the real difference is between Getty Dubay and Penny Gardner?

    Well, I haven’t used getty-Dubay….

The Penny Gardner book is a single book for both Basic and Joined Italic. There are lessons – and online videos on youtube. It does a letter, then has words to practice with already learned letters. I think the style is closer to a standard print than Getty-Dubay. then there are quotes in the style. There are lessons on how to do the joins, and quotes setup. And then more quotes in regular type for the student to use.

It seems to be ok, but I don’t know. This doesn’t seem to be a strong area for my kids an I’m not sure what to do in the future.

I have used both: the Getty Dubay italic is more…italic-y.  Penny Gardner’s is less italic-y, but cost less because you can just print it out.  I was using GB then switched to PG, but now we will continue with GB because I can see a decline in their handwriting skills when we switched…not sure why.  Will look for the requested link then post when it is found.

Okay!  Here is the link for the blank sheets:

Be warned:  it takes a long time to load this page…not sure why.

That looks like a great page – except none of the links on that page seem to work for me….  darn

Same here, I have emailed them to let them know their links aren’t working.  Hopefully they will respond.  When I downloaded these before it was from Portland State University, where Getty Dubay originated…I don’t know anything about this new company.  Since the products are free I could probably email them to you if I find the old flash drive where I originally downloaded them.

    ETA: Found it! I have the following sizes: 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 9mm
