I recently saw the ESV Illustrated Family Bible and wondered if anyone has had good experience with it? It is actual bible text which is edited down to reasonable length for children-though it does not reword sensitive areas, such as David and Bathsheba. I also recently found these two books which do the same thing using the KJV text and gorgeous master artwork but the total number of stories is slim.

My kids are 5, 4, and 3 so I’ll admit that the pictures are a welcome addition rather than the Vos Story bible we’re currently reading-even though I do enjoy the tone of it.  I also really like the idea of reading actual bible text to my kids.  We do read a Psalm or so from the actual bible daily.

Would love your opinions or recommendations!

My ds8 has the ESV Seek and Find bible. It’s great bc it is the complete bible text with bible stories and pictures, too. Maybe that is an option? We really enjoy reading the ESV.

Thanks for mentioning that.  I looked it up and it sounds like a great first bible.  I think I just may have to pick up one of each Wink

I have the ESV Illustrated Family Bible and while the content is great, the binding had nearly disintegrated within a year or so. And it wasn’t abused or even read super-heavily. I don’t know if I got a poorly made copy or what, but I’m very disappointed as this absolutely beautiful Bible is almost unusable.
