I’m looking to do some US History along with Module 1 next year, and originally was just going to read one D’Aulaire book per term – but stumbled across Beautiful Feet’s primary US History guide, and was pondering doing Semester 1 books next year, Semester 2 the following.
We have enjoyed it. I add more books to it than it suggests, just because we love american histroy. They have the student keep a composition book that they record what they learn (age appropriately.)
I think it’s worth it to just have a little extra guidance. Their book choices are great. There was only 1 that we didn’t care for.
bumping this up…I am thinking about doing this study once/week. I at first had thought about just reading the books, but this looks intriguing to have a guide. It will take us about 3 years to get through the curriculum going this slowly, but since it is just supplemental I don’t mind. Would love to hear more thoughts on it. My kids are ages 5 and 7 1/2.
I considered doing BF primary or intermediate Early American this next year, but I wanted to use something that had “somewhere to go” afterwards, if that makes any sense. I decided to go with Truthquest and SCM instead. That said, I think it would work great as a supplement to another program. I also think it would be plenty for children ages 5 and 7 1/2.
We did it and loved it! We added a couple more books per reading. Example: George Washington by D’Aulaire plus a couple of short good chapter books such as Childhood of Famous Americans Series. And every now and then a cd about that person…like from Jim Weiss. We also had patriotic songs as well!
You can use this as a full curriculum or supplement as well.
I have the guide for sell as well as a couple of the books. I can’t sell them all..they are too good! LOL!
PM me if you are interested!
