Anyone use Tapestry of Grace?

I’m currently using Module 1 (Genesis-Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt) and, because I’m supplementing so much, I feel like I’m reinventing the wheel. *I* am learning a lot but my 1st graders aren’t picking up very much. They’re not very engaged either. They listen politely, narrate (correctly) and move on. They’re interested in the subject matter, but not engaged in this format. So I supplement, searching out projects and extra reading material. I’m a single mom and this has been just too much extra work. I’ve been looking at Tapestry of Grace. Do any of you use this? (Or have you used it in the past?) If yes, thoughts? Since we’re already studying Ancient Egypt, the switch wouldn’t be that difficult of a transition. We all like the format of Visits to Africa, so I’m going to stick with that. But I’d really like to get some input on Tapestry of Grace as a History Core. Thanks in advance!

I haven’t used TOG but have heard it’s a lot of work. Hopefully someone w/actual experience will chime in:) Personally, it’s only first grade so I’d be content w/finding some fun living books for the period and googling some craft projects. The period will be covered more indepthly later…I’d just want this to be a fun introduction.  Just my .02! Blessings, Gina

Ok, so I should clarify…that’s what I want to do. I just want to have a booklist of fun living books for the period. That would even supplement what we’re already doing. BUT, I need someone to give me the list! I’m spending time searching for appropriate books and I keep striking out. I’m sure there’s a booklist somewhere and I just haven’t found it yet.

Hearing you say TOG is a lot of work makes me cringe…that’s what I’m trying to avoid! lol.

You need All Through the Ages by Christine Miller. It’s just the booklist type of thing you want broken down veyr well.

Also check out Hands N Heart History Kits for some project kits. We’ve used these before and enjoyed them. We’re in the same module and have the following…

ETA – I’ve bought TOG twice before finding SCM  years ago. I resold it both times. Too much work.

I agree with Christie, but if you are really itching to give Tapestry a try, you can in October for free.

If you are a new customer you can get a free unit during October.  This is a great deal!  Click here for details.

I used Tapestry for two years.  It is a lot of prep work but I really like their book choices.

I have looked at TOG, and it seemed overwhelming to me. For me, it was way too much work and too complicated, but I have not looked at it for quite awhile so I might possibly feel different now?

All I can say is that when I hear about TOG now, I actually start to get nauseated and stressed out! That’s just me and my current situation. It may have something to do with the fact that we have FIVE blessings in our home. LOL!

I just realized that I really did not answer your question – I would highly recommend All Through the Ages by Christine Miller – love this book list!

You could also look at the history books on Beautiful Feet’s site:

They have wonderful choices as well.

This was so helpful. If TOG is a lot of work, it’s the opposite of what I was looking for. Glad I asked! I found a used copy of All Through the Ages. I’d never heard of it before but it sounds like exactly what I need. Thank you SO much for the input!
