I have been following the SCM modules for two years now, using the guides, and I will have a high schooler next year (yikes!). I am trying to prepare ahead of time for what to expect for high school transcipts. Would anyone consider the SCM modules a full history, bible and english credit? (totalling 3 credits) Please send suggestions or ideas on what you do!! Thanks!
No, I would not consider the SCM modules a full history, bible and english credit. I’m using the SCM history guide along with TQ. Right now, my 9th grader I added a few extra history readers and LLATL British Gold for english literature. IEW for writing, right now he’s doing no grammar, but will be using Easy Grammar plus in 10th.
Do you mean you would not say that the history module if followed as planned would not count for their history credit for the year? I would not say that it is enough bible or grammar those would need to be done separately myself.
If the 1st part of my question you say no. Could you explain why not? I was planning on using it for HS
I did count the history, geography, and Bible as full credits for my high schoolers. (Those credits included the supplemental Bible studies and the recommended Government course.) However, I can’t give a definite answer for anyone else. Requirements vary according to state laws and college entrance expectations, so you’ll need to research whether the hours spent on the SCM work fulfill what is necessary for your proposed future plans for your student.
I wouldn’t consider the history/geography/Bible handbooks to fulfill an English credit, though. The narrations would count toward it, but you would need to add the Literature, Poetry, Spelling/Dictation, and Grammar as well.
Thank you everyone! So, as long as I am adding my own grammar (AG) and writing, and also having my son read good literature/poetry along with the history books, we should get a full English credit as well. Thanks Sonya!
Has anyone seen the Greenleaf Press Ancient Literature or Medeival Literature study guides for high schoolers? Any opinions on it? These are so tempting…I get worried that we won’t be covering enough just reading good literature. Shouldn’t I be covering literary terms like alliteration, assonance, foreshadow, etc…??? Are those things he really needs to know? Should we be analyzing anything?
Sorry! This topic makes me want to panic!! Please, any additional information would be so grateful and encouraging.
