Currently, we are using Math-U-See for our math curriculum. We are happy with it generally, but I recently came across Masterbooks Math Lessons for a living Education, and was thinking of switching one of my daughters next year. Does anyone have any experience with this curriculum? Thank you!!!!!
We have been using it this year- Level 3- & plan to continue. Math has progressed pretty smoothly this year. I’ve found the lessons/exercises to be short and the layout not overwhelming to my daughter. Did you have any specific questions? I’ll try to answer any you may have 😊
Ive used it for 3 school year, level 3 twice for two different sons level 4 and level 5. I’m not sure about it honestly. I like it I want to love it but my one son has gone through it and doesn’t seem to know much more after two years of using it and overall I feel like he has lost some of his math skills. My other son thrived with it for 1 year but then when we tried to do the next year it didn’t do as well. I felt like the explanations were lacking and since it is a tear out a page kind of book we tore them out and ended up needing the instructions later but we couldn’t find them.
In hindsight I would do more fact practice then the books have. I would do lots of review in other ways since I feel that is lacking. I would also cut some (if not all) of the copywork. I feel like it is too much since I would rather them do copywork with what they are reading in a book instead and it was more frustrating than helpful 90% of the time.
I think you can make it work and I’m trying to decide if I should make it work with my 4th grader. He has been using level 4 all year and we aren’t through even half of the book. He keeps forgetting his times tables since there isn’t enough practice in mlfle.
