  • I know they are historical fiction, but with so many history details do you think they could count for both lit and history?  I am asking because my son likes them and if he would narrate through a few of these a year I would be content, but I don’t know if I should be, if you know what I mean. 🙂  I do other spines with the younger kids who are working through the Mara Pratt books for American history and Hillyer’s CHOW, so that wouldn’t be all he is getting. I was thinking of getting some of the vocab guides that Jim Hodges has put out also.

I’m just trying to kill many birds with one stone. Perhaps I am being lazy (probably) but those books are hard and I was wondering if anyone else thought them to be enough.  He is 11 by the way.

I agree the Henty books are a tough read- if he is enjoying them at 11 I would keep encouraging him. We managed to finish one when we were doing Cnd history-With Wolfe In Canada I think it was called. I have others but mostly on audio because I love to listen as well. with all the other stuff he is getting, I would just let him go for it! (and could you maybe send him up here so my son can see other boys actually enjoy reading, lol)Wink
