I have been researching which CM friendly curiculum to use for my ds that is heading in to 2nd grade.  I used part of SCM”Modern Times…” the beginning of this last school year because my oldest ds needed me to fill in the modern history gap he had.  We ended up enrolling him in community college for dual-enrollment so I stopped where we were with my youngest ds and switched gears over to anncient history.  We used SOW and we are almost through ancient egypt.  I am planning on continuing on to ancient greece next but I am not sure if I want to stick with SOW.  Ds likes SOW but I like the idea of different points of view from different authors.  I have been looking at SCM Module 2 because I like how it incorporates the Bible both as chronological history AND as a Bible study.  What I’m wondering though is what people think of the booklists that SCM uses.  Does anyone use “All Through the Ages” for book lists?  If so, how do you implement it into your school day?  I have the book, and the books seem like great choices, but how do they compare to SCM choices?  I appreciate your input!

I have found that there are some if not many of the books from “All Through the Ages” also listed in the SCM guides. But even if they aren’t I go through the list and first see if my library has what I want as that also weighs in my decision as to what I use. You can add in extra reading from All Through the Ages or substitute books with what is listed in the SCM guide. It is totally up to you. I like almost all the books in the SCM guide and so I use the ones from ATtA as more reading for my kids. I look ar other history curriculum but always come back to SCM because of the way they incorporate the Bible in their guides. Finally I just quit looking at others.

    Nearly ditto what Kristen said.

I use the ATtA to replace some of the SCM books if my library doesn’t have the SCM ones or if I don’t have the $ to buy them.

I also use the AttA to give my oldest more reading.

I appreciate your thoughts as I have been thinking about doing the same thing.  Would you say that it’s an indespensable resource?  You know, something that you would hold on to?  I really haven’t found any of the books at our local library.  I’ve pretty much had to purchase everything off of Amazon.

I really like the book ATtA but I wouldn’t call it indispensable. You can find other book lists from AO etc. But it is really handy. I don’t find many of them listed at my library either but I try to use paperbackswap. You have to really plan ahead with that though. But if I do buy the books i have decided I will donate them to my library when I don’t want them anymore so someone else doesn’t have to do the same thing as I did.
