Does anyone have experience with the series Winnie The Horse Gentler by Dandi Daley Macall? My dd12 had this series recommended to her by a friend but I have never seen or heard of them and so I don’t know if they are twaddle or quality literature.
Here is the author’s website. You can click on the title and it gives you a summary of each horse book she has written. You can probably make a determination after you’ve seen this.
My daughter read these several years ago. They are twaddle. Basically they are silly stories about bad relationships between parents and children, bad relationships between friends and siblings, not to mention all sorts of teen problems and drama. My dd did enjoy the parts of the books that actually had something to do with horses but that was certainly not the overwhelming majority of the story.
Thanks for the help! I went to the link that cherylramirez posted and read the descriptions. A lot of the books sounded a little “iffy” but I still was really not sure. The friend that recommended them is a lovely, Christian, homeschooled girl who is also horse-crazy so I just wasn’t sure without ever having seen one to be able to read it myself at all. It is a very good thing to be able to go somewhere for book reviews from people with a similar definition of quality literature!
For quality horse books, read marguerite Henry’s books; Little Britches series by Ralph Moody; Francis Tucket series by Gary Paulsen; Gabriel’s Horses trilogy; black beauty.
