I am looking for a living book  (personal travel experience, someone living there) for the Middle East (Iraq, Syria…) for a Gr. 8 plus student.  If you have a suggestion, I would really appreciate it!

We read the Parvana series set in Afghanistan and enjoyed it. It is historical fiction.

The Book of Marvels by Richard Halliburton covers some of this area I believe, along with many other regions.  It’s worth taking a look at if your library has it.  The Occident and The Orient are available together as The Complete Book of Marvels.  It is an older travel book that is oop, but a very engaging travel log.  We plan to use it next year and I will add some updated photos, books, websites, etc. to the places he writes about.  It is used at AO.
