My children and I will be reading about Vikings for the next several weeks.  Does anyone have an easy viking craft/activity or a coloring page?  I would really love paper dolls, something they can play with while I’m reading aloud, but I’m not really finding anything.

Hey Tristan, last year my kids enjoyed making the viking ship here:

    http://www.crayola.com/free-coloring-pages/print/viking-ship-coloring-page/

They colored, then taped it together and made an “ocean” with more paper to put it in.  I think my son still had his!

We also found a notebook at currclick with notebooking and coloring pages.

Currclick also has many other viking extras as well.

    Hope this helps!

Dynamic 2 Moms has a free Vikings lapbook. dynamic2moms.webs.com

Here is a link to Jorvik the Viking center in York England. The girls and I were lucky enough to visit York and we had a wonderful time at this center. There are some bits an pieces that may be interesting to you to look at – some artifact photos and information. I wish you could go there it is really an amazing place and very interesting. Linda

This is a good history site for young kids from the BBC in England. You may want to vet content first if you like – but they have educator help and lots of neat offerings fo all historical periods. Linda

Thanks for all the resources everyone!  I have to say I’m learning just as much as my children will be about the vikings, which is great.

We found these great paperdolls here http://www.ungafakta.se/pyssel/klipp/klippdockor/ Scroll down and you’ll see “Pappa” “Mamma” “Ulf” and “Ylva.” Our kids used them to help narrate the Leif the Lucky story from the d’Aulaires. There is an option to print in color or b/w. We used b/w and the kids researched authentic coloring/details. Hope this helps Laughing

Wow, how great are those paper dolls!? Thanks, maupin5! I just printing off some b&w ones for the kids to color today during reading. We are reading Leif the Lucky this week so this was perfect timing for me :o)
