Next year, we need to begin a more formal Science curriculum.  I am thinking of using this curriculum, but had a question. For those of you who have used it, is it something you read aloud or do you have your children read the text alone?  Or a combination of both?  Are the suggestions regarding this in the TM?

    Thanks!

I read the lessons out loud, we narrate/use the discussion questions together, and we usually do the experiments together too.  It is our “fun” in the day.  I only have one child left using this program (everyone else is older) but I still like to have that time with him so we still do it together even though he’s twelve and doesn’t really “need” me to do it with him.  🙂

We are using one of the Earth science books in our homeschool co-op this year. My oldest is in second grade and doesn’t read really well yet. Here is our schedule:

Wednesday, co-op day, teacher introduces the topic and provides background

Monday, home, we read the chapter together, narrate and discuss

Tuesday, home, we read books on the topic from the library and do the experiment in the book

This way, we spend all year on one book (Weather and Water right now) instead of three books per year. It has gone really well.
