I know that SCM recommends Apologia for science, and Answers in Genesis is also a creation science, so would it not be just as good? Trying to decided between AIG and Apologia for 9th grade.
Which AIG science are you considering? If it is the God’s Design for Science series I personally don’t think it is anywhere near a solid high school science course. It’s not written for that. We have used it for younger ages. It’s ok, more reading and demonstrations than actual experiments, so it depends on what you are looking for.
I agree about AiG God’s Design. That is some why I like it. My oldest dd (8th grade) is switching to DIVE Earth Science. But for my younger girls, AiG fits the bill pretty good.
I’m not aware of AIG offering high school level science courses, unless you are referring to the 101 series. If you are referring to the 101 series, I do not recommend them because they are not high school level material nor complete courses, in my opinion. (And yes, I have watched Biology 101 and Chemistry 101.) If you want to use them, use them as a supplement to a meatier course.
We recommend Apologia or Science Shepherd for high school biology because we have personally used or read them. Both are solid high school level courses. If you choose Apologia, you do not need the notebook to complete the course.
I’ll put in a good word for Science Shepherd biology. My now-graduated daughter had used Apologia for general and physical science and was – truthfully – dreading using it for another year. A friend of mine who is a biologist looked at Science Shepherd and liked it so much, she taught the course to my daughter and hers. She felt it was better written and more user-friendly. So, even though I didn’t teach it myself, I’m just adding my experience for anyone who isn’t fond of Apologia but isn’t aware of alternatives.
