I am doing 106 Days of Creation this fall. I know there is a Christian Liberty Nature Reader used with that. I was looking at the other Nature Readers. I was thinking those could be another way of covering science at some point. The answer keys have questions that look like they would be good for narration. These would go well with nature study. Has anyone used these independently for science? My daughter is working on a remedial level and needing more focus on reading and math due to dyslexia, so I am being careful not to overload her with too much beyond those subjects. The Nature Readers along with the narration and going outside to observe when possible would be enough science for her. I will probably eventually start using AIG, but, unless there is a huge jump in skills over the next few years, we could probably use AIG for some high school work. So, would CL Nature Readers serve as a stand alone science? Maybe adding some living books to go along with each topic? How does this sound?
I’m a big fan of the Christian Liberty Nature Readers! Although they did other science work as well, my three youngest (11, 8 and 7) used them extensively this year as part of their science program. The 11 year old would read and then write a narration, the seven year old would read, write a sentence and draw a picture on a nice notebook page, the 8 yo fell somewhere in between. The books are great for encouraging independent reading, imo because the reading level increases with the books.
@jeaninpa-Thanks for sharing this. My just turning 10yo has some learning difficulties, so i am trying to keep a gentle approach to other subjects while concentrating on math and reading. Because those areas do not come easy for her, she doesn’t look forward to ‘school’ each day. I want to have something ‘fun’ for her to spark some excitement in learning. She loves being outside when possible. We were spreading some mulch the other day and found several salamanders. She was so exccited, even with the earthworms we found. I plan to do some other sciences in the coming years, but, for a while, I want to make nature study a main part of our science. So, I am gathering many resources for nature study, just because I like to have something to refer to and sometimes even a guide. I do plan on some of the nature study being her own observations. Doing something like you mentioned with the CL Nature Readers would be good for the winter when it’s too cold to go outside. We are in PA as well. So, the variety of seasons is great for nature study:)
