I know that we will be using 106 Days of Creation, TruthQuest American History (1800-1865), Module 6 books for grades 1-3, LLATL, Spelling Wisdom, Math U See, books from the Lit. modules for family read aloud time, and library/internet info for artists, poetry and composers that we choose. I will also get my daughter started with typing and may continue some Spanish for fun.

I am trying to decide if I need to use the online planner or not and am just not sure if spending time adding so many resources would be worth it. Right now I just write down what we are doing each day and keep track of what books we have read on the computer. I don’t know how I could use the online planner if I don’t know what books to schedule in the first place…:) And I am not sure how you add them randomly. (Example: if we pick up a book on Daniel Boone at the book store and my son reads it in a couple weeks time. It was not “scheduled” on the organizer so how do you keep up with things like that? I would just jot it down on my weekly plan paper, right now) However, I am wondering if I get these written papers out in 4 or 5 years to look back at what we have done, am I going to be able to even tell what it all means?! Am I going to regret just writing things down? Is there a reason why I shoud keep better records? (no requirements by law in our state, btw)

I LOVE the planner and couldn’t do without it.  So in regards to your questions about books.  Here’s what I do.  I go in and made my own resourse that just says Personal Lit Books.  Then use the word “book” for chapter, lesson etc.  Then I give it like 15 (but you pick the number) numbers (oh in the spot where you pick the number and it pulls them down.) but I don’t write anything in there.

Then I schedule it for each one of the children seperately and for our family.  So now each day on there schedule it will say Personal Lit Book – Read alone and in the “note” section I write the title and author of the books.  Each day they do there reading I hit for it to be worked on.  When they are finished I hit finished and the next one comes up the same as the first but will say #2.  Again in the notes I write the information.  Anyway I hope that helps on how to do the books.  I like that cause I can also tell how many days it’s taking to read a book for each child.

For me it’s well worth it.  I know how long they spend on any one lesson in math, grammar, etc. based on how many days I check worked on verses finished.  I can then print (and do) the detailed report at the end of the school year that will have all that information on it for me.  I love the organizer and scheuler and couldn’t live without it.  That’s just my 2cents.  Misty

You never know when the laws will change or even if you might end up moving in the next few years – better safe than sorry.  I’m only just realizing this myself, so you are way ahead of me in that you have anything written down at all!  I only have piles of papers my boys have done in a folder for each year.  Not too convenient.

I thought I would just use the trial period of the organizer to help me get organized and started off on our CM schooling and now I’m hooked!  Very easy to use and flexible too as far as keeping track of resources.  Misty gave a good way, but once you give it a try you will probably find there are several ways to keep track of your books/resources.  Whatever works best for you.

    Blessings!

Couldn’t you add the book as a resource, with no divisions (maybe a subject of Extra reading or something?)

Then you can mark “Worked on” if you want, or just “Finished” when he is done?

This is just from watching the video’s….  I’m scared to try the free trial as then I might have to find money to use the organizer… lol

I can’t recommend the Organizer enough. It is worth finding the 10.00 a month (well, 9.95). Yes, it is worth the time putting the info. of the books into it. It is one of the only smooth things about my life that’s predictable and takes stress OFF of me instead of adding it ON!

My children read alot of extra books. I usually just write in at the top ‘notes’ section, which will print out at the end of the month and also they keep a paper list of their extra books they’ve read, or I do.

I did try it one time in the past and although I’m on the computer alot for other things I had a difficult time *looking* at it as a schedule for everyday use.  List/schedules that are not written in my own hand confuse me.

I do belong to a charter that keeps track of all  of the books my kids read, math they’ve completed, history their working on, etc.  I also keep a book list for each boy and highlight those they have read and those I’d like them to read (I’m working on getting my ducks in a row for next year and how I’d like to see that run better).  Anyhow, what I also do is handwrite a schedule for each week for class time, sports, field trips, etc., It changes from week to week depending on any appts. we may have as well.  If I don’t see it in my own handwriting it’s like it doesn’t  exist or I am unable to recognize what it is saying if I didn’t write it.  What a weirdo,  I know.

Anyhow,   I use a blank weekly template that has the words *Got School?* at the top and just Sun-Sat across the top with vertical rows for me to write out our schedule.  I add anything that needs to be considered in that weeks schedule.  Then it goes on the fridge and I refer to it each night  and set out our items for that  next day, etc.  I cross off each thing we accomplish so I know what else we need to do.  I also add that night’s dinner at the bottom.  Menus are planned for the week but I consider what may be going on that night and what would be easiest/fastest to get to the table.  I don’t do enchiladas on the evenings I have a meeting or something crazy going on.  We may have a sandwich and soup night instead:)

Do you all think it would be worth it for other reasons.  Like even just for  the book list part or something that would really relieve some stress for me.
