We just rolled out another improvement to the CM Organizer that should save time entering resources. If your resource has an ISBN number, enter that first. Then click the new Lookup Resource Details button. We’ll automatically fill in many of the details for you!
Try it out and let us know how you like it.
By the way, this should work with a low-end barcode scanner (around $40) but we haven’t tried it yet. If there’s enough interest I’d be happy to test some scanners and let everyone know what works.
I have been dreaming about this! I tried it and it worked great, but it didn’t know how many chapters were in the book I found. Is that normal? I only tried one since I’m visiting family and on my iPhone. Thank you for always improving such a terrific service!
Doug – I have a flic scanner, how will the scanner benefit me with this new addition? I think it is a great idea so thanks for your efforts. I keep track of all my books online and on my ipod with the scanner (using a program from collectorz.com) and it stops me buying something I already have. How can I test my scanner to see if it works? If I am missing something here, I am sorry, I have a bad head today and am not thinking as well as I could. Linda
@Cindie2dds, We pull whatever information is available from Amazon and they don’t have chapters or divisions. That’s part of why we created the CM Organizer. 🙂
@missingtheshire, I have not used that particular scanner so I don’t know the details of how that one works. Any scanner that enters data as if you are typing it into your computer should work fine. You just select the ISBN field then scan.
How do you pull it from the scanner? I have a Mac and have delicious library and have scanned into that, but not sure how to scan into the ISBN field… Thanks!
