Okay, here’s another on the cleaning topic . . . how do you clean your mini blinds? Is seems if I try to wipe mine down they look worse!! So then I have ignored them and they really need attention. And, we’ll be moving in 2 weeks and I am planning to leave a spic and span house behind. I don’t even remember if the new house has blinds or not. If not, I’m sure we’ll be getting some and I would so like them to be clean and not all dusty.
When I want to REALLY get mine clean, I take them down and put them in a bathtub full of warm soapy water. You can even use an old broom to scrub them in the tub. Then just rinse and wipe to dry.
That’s not too brilliant, but it works. That’s what my mom always did 🙂
I found that if it is a light dust you can take your vaccumn cleaner attachment and go over them. If they are caked with a more greasy dirt then I would put them in the bath tub with very soapy water with vingar. I would let them soak until it starts to fall off. Then If there is still some stuff on them I would take a scrub brush or a broom and swish them around. I would lift them up and down like I was doing laundry first. I would use the scrub brush as a last resort. If they are really bad and you don’t feel like cleaning them I would just throw them out. 🙂
Is it warm where you live? I usually wait until it’s warm (although in your case you can’t), then hose them off outside with some Dawn and then rinse, and let them dry in the sun. The pressure of the water usually gets a lot off for me. If it’s not warm, the bathtub sounds like a good idea too.
