I’m in the midst of planning for next year, and we’ll be using the Joshua-Malachi/Ancient Greece guide for our history.  I’d like to add in some books for our read-aloud time that focus on this time period as well.  My oldest will be 7.  Are there any “not to miss” books for this time period and that age?  Thanks!

We are currently reading Mary Pope Osborne’s Tales from the Odyssey – my soon to be seven year old son like it, but 10 year old daughter says it is kind of boring.

It is a bit gruesome – as it is the Odyssey, after all, so if you are interested you might want to preview it.  VERY short chapters.

Its been awhile but from what I remember… at that age my boys enjoyed Theras and His Town (Queen has a study guide on this book) and Archimedes and the Door of Science. Also, for overview books- (Though out of print you may find it at your library), Ancient Greece by John Clare put out by Living Books is beautiful, and the boys enjoyed History News: The Greek News. Enjoy!

Thank you for the suggestions!  I have also tossed around the idea of using the Guerber Ancient Greece book along with it.  Would that be good, or would it be overkill?
