I’m curious about the resource Oxford First Ancient History. I’ve noticed just from the excerpts online that it is not using a Christian “young earth” philosophy. Did you skip over those sections, or is there another resource that is just as good but with that philosophy? I’m up in the air about what to do, and I was kinda hoping to start next week.
I’ve not used Module 1 yet, but I have the Oxford First Ancient History and have used it with module 3 this year. I like the book and only certain pages are scheduled in the handbook. I believe only certain pages are scheduled with each of modules 1-3, but either way it would be simple enough to leave those pages out. You could certainly find a similar resource that would work fine, too.
There are only certain lessons that are assigned for Module 1. So far we’ve used it for the first 3 weeks and I don’t recall anything “old earth” that we came across in the lessons. I don’t recommend just letting your kids have the book to flip through. There are some objectionable pictures, and some things that might be scary to young children.
That’s right. The lessons in Module 1 teach Creation straight from the Bible. We don’t read the evolutionary parts of Oxford First Ancient History. We use Oxford First Ancient History only to learn about daily life of some ancient civilizations — Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome — during those three modules (which is most of the book).
Thanks everyone. I feel much more confident now. I actually discovered that I have Usborne’s Book of World History on hand, so I think I’ll start with that next week, and a friend gave me another resource, that I LOVE, so I’ll be using that. http://www.yesterdaysclassics.com/previews/baikie_egypt_preview.pdf THat is a preview of it. She said it is a series, but this one is Peeps at Many Lands Ancient Egypt…
Thanks very much!
