I would like to use Analytical Grammar next year but suffered a little sticker shock yesterday when surfing around for a good price. I realize I can use it for all 4 children and just add new workbooks. But the initial cost of $95 plus another $40 for an additional book for my middle schooler has me wondering… is it worth it?
I have used Applications of Grammar with my oldest. I admired the Christian theme throughout. It was a good book, but not maybe as thorough as I would have liked. However, it was super affordable.
Analytical seems so thorough and has the quality and quantity of diagramming that I like. I also like that it is not all year. Although, my oldest would probably do their recommendation to finish in two years.
Anyone have the teacher’s guide used? Then I would just have to buy 2 workbooks this year at full price. Not thinking of using the dvd.
We use AG. It is costly, but broken down per child per year really isn’t too bad. Plus I hope to re-sell when completed. I’m not sure what they’re charging now for teacher editions, but I just glanced at Homeschool Classifieds and they had a couple for $35-40ppd. Blessings, Gina
I’m sure it is worth the money and, like Gina mentioned, it has a good resell value, etc. Since we are using JAG right now I am familiar with it so it was a toss up between it and Our Mother Tongue. I went to a curriculum swap recently and had already decided that which ever I found would be the one I’d use. Well, I found OMT for $7, but offered $5 and the mom accepted it!
Now I wasn’t basing my son’s future grammar skills on a price, but that did have a bit to do with it, I have to admit. Plus, I’ve heard good things about OMT, and after seeing it for myself, I felt at peace with my decision.
But, if I had not found OMT I would’ve gone with AG because of how it is set up and my ds agreed.
