an old gardening book

I’ve seen an old book for children about gardening, but I can’t remember what it’s called. I’m pretty sure it’s out of print, maybe from pre-1950’s even. An older brother is going to help his sister plan and plant a garden. Not a super-short book, it has several chapters that tell about different processes and aspects of plant growth. I seem to remember that it has the girl’s name in the title, and there may be another one like it where she learns to cook. Does anyone have any ideas of what I’m talking about?
