I’m in the process of planning our next years school that we will start in about 2 months.  We will be studying Am. History.  I would like to study American composers and artist at the same time.  Also, if you know of any resources, I’d be grateful! This is what I’ve come up with so far:

    Artists:

    Grandma Moses

    Ansel Adams

    Normal Rockwell

    Frederic Remington

    Georgia O’Keefe

    Thomas Kincade

    American Composers:

    George Gershwin

    Aaron Copeland

    Irving Berlin

    Scott Joplin

    John Williams

I thought of Mary Cassatt, too. John James Audubon is another one.

Oh, Audubon….The Boy Who Drew Birds is a beautiful book!

And that makes me think of Benjamin West and His Cat Grimalkin.

    A composer:

Stephen Foster- here’s a book (I’ve not read it yet, but have enjoyed others in this series….)

Stephen Foster and His Little Dog Tray

Wolf Kahn is a wonderful contemporary American artist who has some gorgeous landscapes in pastel.

Oh, also P. Buckley Moss, especially if you live near Amish country. She has a very unique style, a lot of it reflecting Amish life.
