I was looking at the curriculum guide and noticed that America the Last Best Hope Volumes 2 and 3 are on there, but not Volume 1. I wondered why. I haven’t read any of them. Is there something about Vol 1 that makes it not recommended? Also, I was thinking of these for my daughter for 11th grade next year, but I’ll have an 8th and a 7th grader. Would you use these books with them or should they really wait til next time around with American History? Thanks

In not finding out now… But I recall Sonya saying on another post that she just want aware of the books at the time the corresponding handbook was written. And my 11th grader and I were hard pressed to follow them. Every day we had to read and reread sections together to follow it, so I wouldn’t use is with younger ones… But on the other hand, they might get just as much out of it as the older one would 🙂

I would like to come back to them later when my younger set is in high school, and see if we can do any better.  I like them… Just found them very difficult.

Right, I wouldn’t recommend them for younger than high school. They’re quite interesting, but would be very challenging for younger grades.

I’m hoping to incorporate the first volume in any future revision of the Early Modern study. As anniepeter mentioned, I simply wasn’t aware of the series when I put together those plans. So feel free to use Volume 1, as desired, along with 2 and 3.

Thanks for the info. I’ll plan on just using them with my older one. I think they’ll be interesting.
