This past year, my dd has been using Math U See’s online drill program to review math facts, which we’ve really liked. I espcially like that i can select what facts she reviews based on what she needs. However, we are moving to Africa in January and I’m not sure that our internet will be reliable enough to count on being able to continue to use an online program like this. Can anyone suggest a math facts review program somewhat comparable that can be downloaded or purchased on a disk to be used without an internet connection? Thanks for any ideas!
Quarter Mile Math is one. Another that is closer to the MUS in that there are not graphics to distract would be Math Facts Now!, which we have and my oldest prefers over Quarter Mile Math. Here is their site: http://www.mathfactsnow.com/
We have the Calculadder program. To save paper, I just print that level’s page once and put it in a dry erase pocket (a sheet protector would probably work too) and we do it that way until we complete that level – when he reaches his goal/time for that level he gets to color the page, draw on it, whatever and put it in his notebook. It is quick, the program has a built in timer. We like it 🙂
I used Calculadders with my older 2 sons back in the day when it was a spiral bound notebook they worked though- the concept is very sound- worked great for us back then and from what I see on their website it looks even better now.
Do you have an iPod or iPad? There are several apps for Math Drill. We use one called Math Drills Lite. This is the free version. You can upgrade but we have not found that necessary. You are able to enter which math facts you want to practice… for eg. Just addition using numbers 1-9 or just 3x tables etc.
Thanks for the ideas folks. Sadly no Ipad/pod…dh isn’t yet convinced that we need one. Maybe someday. =) But hopefully one of the other ideas will suit our needs.
