Hi all, math question here. If you have read my posts before, you know I have 2 at home (pre K & 1st this year), a special needs at school part time and baby on the way. To add to that lovely mix I am probably adding an 11th grader (my husband’s cousin’s kid) who is really struggling in school mostly do the the environment, her temperment, and minor learning challenges. We are all excited and nervous but still undecided. So my first (of many to follow I am sure!) questions is this: Do you have recommendations for Algebra 2? She is not a great student, I was good at math but that was the early 90s so it has been a while, and she has never been homeschooled before. She comes from a good family but there have been struggles, her attitude can get in the way, but she is 100% awesome. We love her dearly and just want to see her happy and finishing high school well. I have been reading the high school series and enjoying it but we are going to need a very user friendly math with a dvd or cd rom type instructor that is very clear and not dependant on using their particular curriculum up to this point. I hope this make sense! Thanks for your time and advice!
Since she struggles in this area, I would suggest the placement test at Teaching Textbooks. If she is not intent on pursuing higher level sciences and math (Physics and Calculus), then TT is the way to go. If she scores to where she has to re-do Alg. I, no big deal, then she can move into II. Another perk, is that you are free to teach your young ones while she is “tutored” personally.
I think this is a good idea from Rachel. I use a different program and love it, but Teaching Textbooks, although not cheap, is much more geared for independent learning.
