Has anyone used ALEKs for math? My son is currently using it. It is a web based program, and very interactive. I’m very pleased with his progress. I think its CM friendly. The level of math is broken into pie pieces, and you don’t move on until you have mastered that piece of the pie. The program itself does random assessments to see where they are and where they need to improve 🙂 There is really no grading unless you throw in quizes. The program also has quick tables in them so they can do the math facts 🙂 If you do well in the facts it unlocks games for them to do. The program also has an explain button so if the child (or mother) doesn’t quite understand it you can hit the explain button to have them show how to do the program.
I got the 30 day free when I pulled my son from PS last year, I didn’t want to buy a curriculum when I wasn’t for sure if my husband was going to let me home school this year. When he did his assessement for 4th grade I found where he was weak in many areas especially math facts. We are in 5th grade now, but still doing 4th grade math there are some areas he still struggles with, I’m hoping by the end of the quarter I can bump him up to 5th grade 🙂 He is almost there, he is working on the last piece of the pie now.
I guess I’m just looking for some reassurance that it is CM friendly.
