Has anyone used this online science curriculum?  http://www.learning.com/ahascience/

Our Science has been a complete disaster this year and I am looking for something different for next year.  Science is not one of my strong points and having an online teacher is very attractive.

The price is also attractive…. $15 per child.  My dc will be 11 & 9 when we start our new school year in August.

Any feedback would be most welcome.  Thanks.

After not being very consistent with Nature study, we added this and it’s been the Best $30 I’ve ever spent. The kids love it and they come and narrate the entire lesson back to me without me even asking 🙂 My kids are 8 and 10. They LOVE Aha Science. The lessons are short, interesting and very informative and the games are fun and really help cement the concept. My kids are really learning and retaining the info. The site is very easy to use, just pick the order of the lessons and schedule it. We sometimes skip the experient and journaling but even still a topic usually has Lecture, game, game, and quiz.. It keeps a gradebook too, if thats important to you….It’s a HIT here 🙂

My kids consider doing their Bible study, teaching Textbooks and science a day off 🙂

Thanks for the positive reply Amy.  I did search for reviews but didn’t find many favourable ones, but when I looked at the samples on the website, it looked great.  So I’m pleased to hear a positive review from you (& your kids) Smile

Has anyone else used Aha Science?

I seems interesting and the price is definitly a plus.

However, I tried one of the video they put as an exemple (on Oceans) and it didn’t play well, it kept stoping or the dialogue keeps going but the pictures get stuck at the same place.

Wondering if it is a problem w/the program or because I do not have what it needs to play correctly.

Wondering how the experiments are, if you need to purchase a lot of stuff and how easy and fun??

I tried the sample video on Oceans too and it played smoothly for me.  Maybe you need an update or extra program to run the video.

petitemom… I have also wondered about the experiments.  I couldn’t find a list of resources needed.  But I did see on another sample page there was an experiment using Mealworms.  I don’t know anything about them or where to get them, so that experiment probably wouldn’t work for us.

Amy… Can you see a list of items needed for the experiments?  Have the experiments you’ve done so far used common items that would be easy for anyone to get?

    Michelle,

Yes, all I do is click on the assignment , then click on veiw and it opens a pdf with the experient instructions.list of materials etc. Firefox will block the pop up unless you say its ok…. Most of them are out of household items… i plan on using this again, atleast for my youngest, adding the experiments and journaling next time around ..

Amy, thank you.  That is helpful information about the experiments.

I am going to look at the samples again, but I think this really will work for us.  The visual presentation will work well for my ds and the hands on experiments should be great for my tactile learners.  I wish there was a trial version to “try before you buy” 🙂

    Thanks Amy,

I’ll see if I can get a friend who is better w/computers than we are to see what we can do!!

It would be great to see what it looks like ahead of time.

Michelle let me know if you end up using it!
