Is there a guideline as to how many written narrations a child should be expected to complete per week depending upon their age?  I realize every child is different, but I would love a generic schedule to use as a reference point just to make sure we’re on track.  I’m sure I have seen one mentioned here before, but am unable to find it now!  Thanks in advance.

No answer here. Just the same question. We have only started oral narrations last year and only did them with the read-alouds because I work full-time in the day time. I’d like to start adding more consistent written narrations this year and am curious what an average amount of writing for young 7th-graders would be each week?

My dd is 9 and in 4th grade.

We are beginning this year with 1 written narration per week. We are starting with dd narrating orally as usual while I write, then we’ll move to dd copying from what I’ve written, and finally dd will write the entire narration herself. We are using her literature books as she loves them so.

I envision having dd write 1-2 per week on her on by year’s end. I’m not sure how this will increase per year. I need to pull out my SCM seminar notes to see what we talked about. When I’ve done so, I’ll try to re-post here.

    Hope That Helps,

    Christie
