Can anyone help/suggestions an affordable 8th grade science curriculum? I know Apologia is suggested, but it is just too expensive.

Just wanted to mention that Apologia can often be found used pretty inexpensively. I have spent $25-30 and that includes the student text book and the teacher test/solutions manual, sometimes even extras like the CD. I have found General Science, Physical Science and Biology all in that price range in the past year (hard to pass up a good deal so I am ready for years to come). I always look at homeschool classifieds before buying or if you are on FB there are often curriculum specific sales groups.

Depending on what your son/daughter wants to study you could get books at the library and allow them to do some note booking.
This year my 8th grade daughter did just that since she wanted to study anatomy and we weren’t able to find something that suited her level. Every three weeks she had to give me a one page written report on a particular system of the body and draw several diagrams. She used books from our local library and has finished with a wonderful understanding of the human body. You could really do the same thing with any other field of science…and it won’t cost you anything 🙂

I really like Masterbooks science. They have many i teresting options. And they seem more affordable.

Wow, I’m checking it out right now and really like what I see. My only question is, how do I choose what book(s) to go with? I have an 8th grader who has already done zoology and a light touch of anatomy and biology. There is so much to choose from, but I have no idea what to go with.
Thanks a bunch for this recommendation by the way!

My to be 9th grade ds is going to do the Biblical geology course for a physical science credit. I am using the older set because it claims to be enough for a hs credit. For some reason the new version is listed for 7th and 8th only, not sure why. If you find something interesting you might check Rainbow Resource before buying, they often have the sets for a little less.

I recommend the Tiner books, too. My child went through several in her 8th grade year. I have Body by Design and too, I would sell for a low price.
Also, I have the Apologia Biology text, TG, and DVD which I would be happy to pass on to you. It would be good to use for 9th. They were a blessing bestowed on me, so I would be like to do the same, for only the cost of S/H.
Do you need Saxon math? I have some texts and CD-ROMS I would give you. Only need S/H covered.

Exploring Planet Earth
Exploring the World of Biology
I also have:
BJU Earth and Space Science books A and B
And:
Science Shepard’s Life Science. It’s a beautiful book.

We used DIVE Science with Dr. Shormann. It was about $60, it’s a download, so I can use it again with other children. His website is diveintomath.com.
