    Hello Friends,

I’m hoping someone has had some experience with either of these websites/organizations and can offer a review.  Here are the sites I am looking at http://www.hugsforoursoldiers.org and http://www.anysoldier.com They look legit, but sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s real or a scam.  I just don’t want to waste my time.

Thanks fellow CMers!  Also, if you know of an organization other than these that you use and like, please share!  🙂

Any soldier is a legit site. It is however up the individual to put their info on there. It will tell you how long it has been since they put an update. If it has been awhile they may be back home.

Read the mailing rules though, because you do not want your package to get returned. Be very careful of magazines and such as most deployed locations are in Muslim countries.

The deadlines for mailing in time for Christmas have passed for some locations and are comming up this week for others.  They often still arrive in time though.

Do you know a soldier overseas? I always feel like it’s best to ask them the name of a soldier who isn’t receiving any packages.

My husband’s unit has 30 soldiers in Afghanistan right now. Would you like me to ask him for a name?

Would a gift get there in time?  They probably wouldn’t mind a late on do you think?

Most locations the deadline is the 10th.  That doesn’t mean they won’t get there if you mail after that. The 10th is just the date the post office sets if you wnat to make sure it arrives.  That said last year we got mail from my mom from like the 20th and mail she sent around the 3rd or so came after Christmas.  If you are close to a big mail hub that flys mail over then it is more likely to get there in time.

It is very sweet of you to think of servcie members.  My hubbys squadron is deployed but we take good care of them.  I am sure there are friends or family you could be a blessing to or baileymom could get you a name perhaps.  Then you might know more for sure that is it going to a good place.

Oh, thank you all for your info.  I’m not intending this to be a “holiday-only” thing…I’d like my family to be able to write letters and maybe send a few packages year round.

@baileymom – if you wouldn’t mind asking your husband for a name and address of someone who just doesn’t get much mail that would be great!  You can PM me.

…DH hasn’t been able to get a name. There is an organization in Cincinnati (where we’re from) who may be able to help:

Sorry I wasn’t able to help more.
