  • Tonight I was very alarmed. My dishwasher ( not old, good brand!) started having black smoke coming out if it after my husband turned it on and left the house for a quick errand. I was outside and my kids were all over the place just playing, baby sleeping. Anyway, I came in and smelled something awful. When I discovered the problem, I tried turning off the dishwasher quickly, but the computerized part was malfunctioned and wouldn’t shut down, still burning!!! I called hubby quick and he rushed home to turn off the breaker outside.

I’m saying all of this to reiterate the point that things DO happen in a blink of an eye, and our kids can be put at great risk. I am so thankful that I was here and aware, and that our house didn’t burn. Be careful ladies, if this would have happened while I was out, I don’t want to think what could have occurred. My 13 ds is responsible, but I think it’s not wise for him to be put in this situation.

Ok, soap box is put away. I say this out of care and concern! 🙂

That is scary. Glad your DH could shut it down. I have to say I do know how to switch the breakers. We have an older home and it is just necessary sometimes. I also don’t like turning on the dishwashwr at night right before we go to bed. Or the washing machine either. What if this sort of thing happened while everyone was sleeping?

Somewhat related advice:  Everyone over the age of ten should know how to turn off breakers, including the main and how to turn off the water main.  You don’t even want to know why I think this is good advice. Cry
