My family just adores the Explore the Holy Land book!! I can not reccomended it to enough people. Our only issue is she is tantalizing us with her little snippets of food and recipes from each nation
I would love to be able to finish each study of the different nations with a lunch prepared from foods from that nation. I have been searching for a cookbook that would help with that. Any ideas?
I have one suggestion that might be helpful now, or in the future if you like to cook along with geography studies. It’s a vegetarian cookbook called ‘Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant’. The recipes are delicious, and the book is organized according to region. They are a bit modified since no meat is used, but the spices are authentic and the recipes are pretty easy to make.
Thanks for the reminder, we are in mod 1 right not (Ancient Egypt), and I want to make a few of the recipes from North Africa. =)
Also, I have a recipe for what is called “Esau’s Pottage” if you’re interested.
Saute the onions in the butter until soft and transparent. Add the remaining ingredients and cook until the pottage begins to thicken and the rice becomes soft. Adjust seasoning to taste before serving.
I saw this recipe in a bean cookbook published in 1982. It doesn’t look very exciting, and you will probably be dying to add lemon juice and indian spices and stuff. But then it wouldn’t be a little bit close to what Esau sold his birthright for, now would it? His was probably lentils and water. LOL Enjoy!
