I was at Target today and in their $1 section they had 5 or 6 classic literature books like Heidi and The call of the wild. I glanced through them , there are some black and white sketches / pictures sprinkled throughout the books. In the front  of them all it says  they “have been adapted and illustrated with care & thought” ,” that they have been carefully condensed & adapted from the original version”. And to “read the original when you are ready for every detail ”

Are adapted versions generally ok? Or do they water down the rich , timeless tale that it is meant to be ? I bought Little women and The call of the wild , but am wondering if I should just hold out for the original versions?

    Thanks 🙂

They water it down (usually a LOT).  Hold out for the originals.

Adapted = typically worthless, IMHO. Those particular books are very accessible in their original form. I’d return them and use the $ to buy good used copies of the originals.
