I am currently reading the Abigail Adams bio by Whitney (recommend!) when I came across these two wonderful quotes; well two of many, but these esp. I thought ya’ll would appreciate. The first by the Biographer and the second a direct quote.

Keep in mind, that she said these things in the midst of occupation by British soldiers and the second quote, after the fighting had started and both times, her husband was 400 miles away in Philadelphia, only reachable by letter! It’s quite an encouragement to me and I believe she is great role model for us in Faith, sense of duty and perseverence  as wives and educating mothers during our struggles.

Just after John Adams left for the First Continental Congress, the Biographer wrote: “Abigail’s own duty was clear before her:to administer her household with the upmost thrift, keep a lively oversight of the farm, cherish and educate her children, and keep her husband in touch with home by long and frequent letters.”

the second, her quote:”All my desire and all my ambition, is to be esteemed and loved by my partner, to join with him in the education and instruction of our little ones, to sit under our vines in peace, liberty and safety.”

I hope you like them as much as I did,

Yes, she does sound like a “kindred spirit”. Thank you for sharing these quotes.  I’m looking forward to reading this book.
