Abeka vs CM Quizzes and tests etc.

I am a new teacher at a Christian School. The curriculum of the school is Abeka. Before being hired at the school I attended the Ambleside Summer Institute.  In my fifth week I  have decided to implement CM style teaching for my classes. In the first few days I have seen radical improvements in my teaching abilities and the students. My co teachers were talking about quizes and tests like that was our main goal. Then I was asked about my own class are we doing the quizzes and tests. I said i was doing some. I dont see the need for soooo many quizzes but that is current policies. My goals are simple : do the kids understand?

Does anybody else have experience with this?
