Just got home from celebrating the 4th of July with some other families. One activity that we did was so meaningful and very CMish, I thought – we actually read the Declaration of Independence out loud. Each person read a few lines or a paragraph, even the kids. I guess it would have been truly CM style if we had taken turns narrating it back – maybe next year!
Just an idea I wanted to share. Hope this blesses somone.

My two oldest went to the Knights of Columbus to recite some patriotic things they’ve memorized (the Bill of Rights and Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty” speech). After that my oldest went to a local airport with several other homeschool families to welcome home 300 soldiers just back from Iraq.

We do a little flag raising ceremony at home where we say the pledge, sing The Star Spangled Banner, read the Declaration of Independce, share things that we are thankful for regarding our country, and pray. (We have a flag hanger on our porch,) Then we have a big special breakfast using all the pretty dishes from the china hutch, 😉 We play games, listen to patriotic music, and watch fireworks in the park at night. Afternoon activities will vary depending on interest and outdoor temperatures.
My friend and her family were this weekend, so we took them on a hike in the afternoon yesterday.
Jawgee, what a wonderful 4th that was. It will probably become one of their cherished memories.
