My ds 15 and I are reading together, Return to Me, a christian historical fiction that follows the exiles leaving Babylon and then them returning to Jerusalem. The book highlights The end of 2 Kings, Ezra, Haggai, Zechariah and Daniel. It begins a trilogy, by Lynn Austin, that really makes the scriptures alive in my mind. I feel, she does a good job incorporating the scripture into her neatly woven story of the struggles that may have occurred during those times. We are almost 3/4 done with the book, and I feel, for us it strengthens the understanding of the time period with Jewish vocab. sprinkled throughout. Even though I recommend this book, I only would say to an older group, that there are accounts of deep-seeded idolatry and reference to the violence a city endures upon takeover by its enemies. Frankly, it’s very similar to the scripture. Which is sometimes hard to read, because of content. Proceed with caution! For those planners, you could begin the book at the beginning of Term 3 for the history of Joshua to Malachi. Parent read first! I found this trilogy at our local library.
The main character, Zechariah, reflects the prophet writer and Book of. Tell me Your reviews!
Also, for spiritual stretching and faith building get your hands on the life changing Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers. I spent many sleep deprived days due to much late night reading. Second thought save it for vacation or summer reading! LOL! Martha
Wow–great timing on this! We are in the second term of Joshua-Malachi and I just finished reading A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers after learning about her for the first time a couple of months ago. I couldn’t wait to read that book every night!
Dear Holly, Yes indeed my all-time favs as well. For leisure reading, you may also enjoy the authors Jill Eileen Smith and Julie Klassen. Ms. Klassen’s first book I read was The Apothecary’s Daughter, which I enjoyed mostly for the apothecary details and customs. I researched some about apothecaries and believe many facts of them built into the story. I viewed it as a teaching time with mostly christian character building, some drama as most if not of all romances have. So, I’ m telling you in caution, they are interesting but no Francine Rivers!
Also, My good friend screamed that Redeeming Love by Rivers is her favorite all time redemptive story. Proceed with caution, because i HAD THeSe SPARKS OF ANGER in me that had a hard time extinguishing even after the book was finished. I felt I could have physically done harm to the evil one in the book and I felt I couldn’t separate the person from the sin. I had NO love for that person. Even now I have pangs of madness boiling up in me recalling the read. Just be careful! As you can tell I struggle with forgiveness in my life. Both authors found at my library, but no Rivers.. Happy Reading! LOL MArtha
To add, I just watched a youtube video of :The 2nd Temple, where 2 men over 5 days make a replica of the second Temple and then I watched a youtube video of how the USA and Russia are being asked by the Jewish community in Jerusalem to help them to construct the 3rd Templ under the Trump presidency. It gives much background on Temple 1 and 2 and tells of the scriptural citings as evidence( the Coming Temple: the Full documentary). My children will watch both tomorrow
LOL MArtha
