Hi there.  I am unable to order the novel we wanted to use for Term 2 of Genesis- Deuternomy, that is “The Golden Goblet”.  We have already read The Cat of Bubastes several times and loved it.  I am hoping to find a free online book to use, rather than having to spend, as we are really struggling at the moment.

I was thinking of Uarda, as it is suggested, or perhaps another Georg Ebers book, as he wrote so many about Egypt.  I am not familiar with any of them though, and have never read romance to my son.  My oldest is a boy,  12 yo, so it would be for him.

He has always been quite capable to listening to rather advanced read-alouds.  We’ve done quite a few Henty’s, for example.  We did start Mara, daughter of the Nile, as I had it, but we stopped as I thought it not quite suitable for him yet but a good book for later.

    Any ideas or comments?

    Thank you,

    Lindy

I think I would hesitate to use Uarda with a 12yo, Lindy. A couple of the characters wrestle with philosophical, societal, and religious concepts that would probably be more suitable for older students.

Thank you so much for replying Sonya.  We’ll give it a skip till round two.  Arghh… back to the drawing board.
