Which book should I start my ds with? The curriculum guide has the Magician’s Nephew as the 1st book. I understand it is the first book but should it be read first or after the others? Any thoughts?
Personally I prefer reading TMN first. It is logically the first story, even though it was not written first. The only caveat I can give is that if your children don’t love it, then consider skipping to TLTW&TW as I’ve never met a child who doesn’t love that one. 🙂 In our family, now that we’ve read them all so many times, we tend to skip TMN and The Horse and His Boy as we don’t love them quite as much as the others, but then we have them nearly committed to memory. 🙂 A lot of things are explained if you read TMN first.
Our family really enjoyes the Narnia series books. We started with The Magician’s Nephew. Everyone in my family enjoys that one. We also enjoy listening to the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre version of the books. They are very well done and make for great listening on car trips. We bought the set from CBD and we’ve definitely gotten our money out of it. We are always going back to listen to them again and again.
I’m a fan of reading them in the order CS Lewis wrote them, which is to start with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. That’s how I read them when I was a kid, and it’s the order the movies are being made.
Thank you everyone for posting..this is very helpful!!
Rachel in the curriculum guide under literature for 3rd grade is the list of books in order. I would write them out for you but I don’t know all the books either. 🙂
We also love the Narnia Series. We read TMN first then TLTW&TW, The Horse and His Boy and now we are starting Prince Caspian. I also agree with how great Focus of the Family’s Radio Theatre is of the entire series. Dd absolutely loves this series. It was a little harder getting through The Horse and His Boy than the others. I also recommend using the lapbook from Hands of a Child for TLTW&TW. It brings out all the Christian correlations and its fun to do too.
