If you haven’t seen it yet, End of the Spear is a wonderful movie. This is the true story of Nate Saint and his friends, including Jim Eliott, trying to witness to the Waodani tribe. Later, his son Steve goes back years later to live. It is on Netflix. I highly recommend it..it is rated PG 13 due to violence and natives show their bottoms though covered in the middle!

I first watched the documentary Beyond the Gates of Splendor. It is Steve Saint’s re-telling of the story. Very good as well!

Looked on Amazon, not sure why some give it low stars. I thought it was well done! Maybe they are used to Hollywood! For a Christian movie it was great!

    Enjoy!

Anyways, just wanted to share!! BTW, get lots of tissues!

This move is about 5 missionaries to Equador who were killed by the Auca indians (later known as the Waodani). Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming and Ed McCully. Both movies are fabulous in my opinion. My hubby was named for Nate Saint and Jim Elliot and has actually met Elisabeth Elliot and Steve Saint. This is a story dear to our family. Highly recommended.

Here is a short video of Steve Saint with Mincaye (one of those who were responsible for the spearing of his father). They are great friends. Mincaye sings with Steven Curtis Chapman – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9z6oK3Y-zM – moves me every time I see it.

Torches of Joy is about a different missionary experience in Irian Jaya.

I second the thumb’s up for End of the Spear. It isn’t easy to watch, but is worth watching We did allow our three older sons to watch it after previewing it first. They are 14, 12 and 10. We talked about it after the movie.

We also have the YWAM book, On a Wing and Prayer, which is a great accompaniment to the movie.
