Yes, I’d heard good reviews of it and decided I needed to read it. I wasn’t terribly excited. It was readable enough, but at such a super-superficial level. I do like his book on art history, though.
Thanks Bookworm. I just received it in a book order and thought, “what’s the hype?” Thought maybe I was missing something. Thankful I only paid $1. Sigh. It’s an easy enough read for beginners. Not thrilled with evolutionary content in the first couple of chapters, but that pops up everywhere, so I’ll just put an “E” sticker on the spine.
Thanks for your note. I thougth maybe I was the only one. I will ILL the art history book.
I didn’t mind it so much, as I needed a “quick sweep” of history when I purchased it. However, but made notes in it with regard to the evolutionary content. I remember researching it, and the original version, in German I think, was never written as such, it was “updated” by the author. So sad. I do think his last chapters about Germany and WW2 are poignant and even if I skipped the book with my children I would like them to read that portion.
I think I would prefer Story of the World or something like that but already own this and can’t spend.
Grombich’s art book is really good. We read the portions that correspond to the era we are studying. I like his friendly style in this book.
