Anthony Esolen, author of Ten Ways to Destroy the Imagination of Your Child (a do-not-even-think-about-missing-this-book book, btw,) is a modern hero for thinking people, and for those of us who wish to think better. This recent article is excellent and I believe goes along with some of the recent discussions.

I love this article dearly, although I do take umbrage at the thought that one cannot BOTH appreciate and have one’s soul informed by the literature, AND catch out the sneaky in their statistics and poor arguments.  Laughing

Interestingly, this just popped into my inbox from the Goodreads quote of the day:

Mark Twain“You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.”

I enjoy his articles. Thanks for sharing. Now excuse me while I go look up in my dictionary the 20 words I’ve never seen before! ; )

Very good point, Bookworm. And I think his article proves that it is possible to do and have both as he was doing in defending his argument. I think having the first makes it more possible for us to do the latter.

LOVE the quote!! It’s going in my commonplace book. 🙂
