where to start with my dd age 6. I really haven’t done any formal school axcept writing her letters and numbers. Read alot of cm books and five in a row books. this year i decided i better introduce math. i love math-u-see and wondered if Primer would be a good place to start. I also wondered if FIAR is CM friendly. i love the books and i dont want to do to much with her yet. ANy advice on her curriculum for this year. I also wondered about Queeens language lesson for the very young. do or not do yet?

    Thanks for the help.

We really like MUS.  The Primer was a great introduction to math for us.  I do think that it could be skipped and just start with Alpha if you think she understands her numbers.  A lot of the Primer was repeated in Alpha, but Alpha went further with it.

We did Queen’s LL for the Very Young 1 and 2 with my oldest.  With my youngest I never finished them.  I did them because our state requires testing in 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th grade.  I wanted them to have some sort of idea about grammar before the testing.  My youngest hasn’t tested yet and my oldest was expemted from the 3rd grade test becasue she was on a learning plan for dyslexia.  So, I have no idea if it would help with the testing.  But, if I had it to do again, I would not do the Queen’s.  I would just leave it be until they were older.  If they scored low on that area of the test, another area would boost their score back up.  It was a nice, gentle introduction.  I think they’ve done a great job putting their books together.  I’ve just decided that it was unnecessary.

If I was working with a 6 year old again, I would do:

History: good books, SCM module or other choice

Geography: Look at a map and learn some countries that correspond with your history

Science: nature study, good books, expirements or whatever the interest is

    Math: MUS Primer or Alpha

    Copywork

    Beginning Reading

Bible/Personal Development as it fits your family

If you want to, add it picture study, language study (spanish, french, etc), music, art
