My 7yo just finished reading Busy Times.  She started out reading it to me, but as she was reading so well, I set her loose on her own.  She just finished it yesterday, and I’m pretty sure it was too easy for her.  She is reading a non-fiction 4th/5th grade level book on her own, just because she wants to, and is understanding it very well (I’ve checked her on this to make sure).  Is it worth it to have her start in on More Busy Times, or should I move on to the next stage in Beginning Reading (which would be…what?)?  She didn’t particularly enjoy this book, mostly because it was too easy at the end.  I don’t want her to hate her lessons, kwim?

    Thanks,

    Sara  🙂

    Hi Sara,

More Busy Times isn’t much more difficult, so if you feel it is too simple, you may want to consider skipping it.  One of our daughters reads at a high level for her age also; I often ended up printing out books off of Project Gutenberg for her because she found the smaller print of books meant for older children too difficult to read.  It sounds like you’re finished/almost finished with the “beginning reading” stage!
