Wow, that's a lot of spam

Indeed, but it’s been educational for me. I never would have guessed that the French word for Nike is…..Nike.
I decided to have a little fun reporting them as spam, so I brought up Google Translate and sent the SCM team messages like “S’il vous plaît faire ce pourriels s’en aller!” (Which means “Please make this spam go away!”)
Recently, later at night there has been a bunch of French Spam – the SCM people clean it up presumably before I’m up in the morning. Someone has definitely been attacking this forum with SPAM recently all right…. but the SCM people are pretty good at getting rid of it. I think night time is harder for them to get it quickly.

I don’t think you want these guys to be your French tutor. Some of the WORDS may be French but some of it makes no sense . . .
It IS getting pretty annoying.
Doug and Jordan, have you ever considered adding Captcha technology to the sign-up process? My dh did that for my forum, and no more spam. 🙂
Captcha may be good, it sure is a pain to open the site and see all this rubbish…still at least Doug and Jordan make it gone as fast as they can….
Sue – Well, I think they tried staying up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week… but when they saw (from exhaustion) the computers chasing after them to attack them… they decided that the should try to grab a couple of hours a night….
I’m kind of curious if my posting on here from France has anything to do with it. I don’t know how and it’s probably completely unrelated but it’s a coincidence nonetheless. 🙂

I usually stop and check the site early in the morning before continuing my sleepy-eyed trek to the treadmill. But Jordan is a true morning person and is always up with the spam cleared out before I ever get there.

We do have one but it only appears when certain suspicious conditions are met because we don’t want everyone to have to deal with it to sign up. Apparently, someone has figured out how to sign up without looking so suspicious. Our software learns as it goes but for some reason it’s a bit slow catching on to this one.

By the way, Jordan and I were just discussing the idea of making some of you junior moderators so you can just remove the spam with a click rather than reporting it and waiting for us to deal with it. Many of you are long-time trusted members of this community who have been reporting spam anyway, so it might make sense to that if I can wrangle the software to make it happen.
That is a good idea Doug, because when you get a long string of spams, it bumps all the messages down and it is frustrating….I think everyone can tell spam from the real deal…..junior moderators – will work better than the captcha perhaps and less annoying – captcha can get on your nerves a bit….:))
