High School U.S. History Spine America:The Last Best Hope (Comments from Sonya on SCM Forum)

I recently was searching for alternative titles to use for a spine book for U.S. History in place of A History of the American People by Paul Johnson and ran across something Sonya wrote on the SCM Forum about America: The Last Best Hope by William Bennett as a possible option. But when I got on the SCM Forum and tried to search for Sonya’s comment to read thoroughly, I cannot find it now. Does anyone know where this is on this forum? I have read some negative reviews about this book as well – that it is more from a liberal political perspective and maybe would not fit with a Christian Worldview so well. Has anyone read these history books by William Bennett as well as the one by Paul Johnson, A History of the American People to give me a good comparison? Has anyone used or looked at Notgrass’s Exploring America texts for a possible spine book for high school U.S. History to give me a good idea if this is a good option to use for a Charlotte Mason method U.S. History spine for high school? Also, once again, I would like to be able to find Sonya’s forum comments about William Bennett’s U.S. History book series if anyone knows where to direct me for for this. Thank you!

We recommend it for the Modern Times module for grades 10-12, yes. The Modern Times module uses only Volumes 2 and 3, because I wasn’t aware of the series when I put together the Early Modern module. My daughter is doing the Early Modern module this year, and I’ve given her Volume 1 as well. She has told me several times that she is enjoying it.
