Product Description

“Let the young people hear good music as often as possible, … let them study occasionally the works of a single great master until they have received some of his teaching, and know his style.” —Charlotte Mason

This Music Study with the Masters portfolio includes everything you need to teach music appreciation successfully.

  • Feel confident—whether you are old friends with the composer or are just being introduced—with step-by-step instructions for doing music study. It takes only a few minutes each week, yet it yields amazingly rich results!
  • Listen to a wide range of Bach’s works and get to know his style with two full-length albums of his music. We have included mostly full-length works and added a few shorter, well-known pieces to round out the collection.
  • Learn the fascinating stories behind the pieces (and a bit about classical music along the way) with the Listen and Learn ideas for eight of Bach’s works.
  • Get to know Bach as a real person through a personal portrait and see where he fits in history with the included timeline.
  • Experience Bach’s history come alive with two living biographies: a succinct and vivid A Day in the Life narrative designed for all ages, and a longer entire-life biography well-told for older students (or anyone who wants to learn more).
  • Fuel additional discovery and heart connections with Bach and his music with recommended resources for further study.

Charlotte held that “Music is a necessary part of education.” Your students will enjoy this part of a rich education when they do Music Study with the Masters!

Has been a great resource for all my children, thank you!

5 stars! My 8-year-old and 10-year-old loved me to read “A Day In the Life” and listen to the CDs in the mornings! Totally worth the money, and this will be one I will keep in our homeschool library for us to continue to listen to over and over again 🙂 Highly recommend!

  3. Kimberly

So easy to use and great for all ages! We have a high schooler all the way down to a Kindergartner (and many grades in-between) and we all learned about Bach together. The digital downloads of the music are great because we can continue to listen to Bach from our iTunes account anytime we wish!

I started this with my kids this year and it’s very difficult to read and therefore hard to understand when being read aloud. The story seems to drag on rather than being brought to life in a memorable way.

    • Jordan Smith

If your children are young, you can feel free to skip the biography and just enjoy listening to the music together.

My 7 year old daughter is thoroughly enjoying this music study! It’s really exciting to see her excited about beautiful, quality music at such a young age. After listening to the music, she is requesting to start violin lessons as soon as possible. I am happy with this purchase, except for the fact that from the very first time I opened this music study from the plastic and played the CDs, both discs have some pretty terrible flaws in parts of them. There are areas where the discs sound scratched and at times make very loud noises. Very disappointed in the quality of the disc recordings.

Thanks for the review! So sorry about the defective discs. Our team will be in touch shortly to get you replacements.

Question, I want to buy the physical book to read and do music study with my children but I would like to have the music on my Phone to listen to, do you have a download option for that?

    • Tamara Bell

Thank you for your interest in Music Study with the Masters! Due to licensing agreements, we are required to sell either physical copies of the kit or digital, not a combo. If you decide to purchase the digital kit, you can print the booklet that is included. If you would prefer to have it printed at a local print shop, we are happy to provide you with a permission letter via email.

We have loved this whole series. I am looking forward to more in this series. The “day in the life” is by far my favorite. I do love how the music study teaches musical concepts. As a musician myself I am grateful to teach high quality material to my kids. Please make more! We’re running out of composers available to study. Highly recommend.
