jeaninpaParticipantWe’re finishing up the Middle Ages in the next month. My children are 7-14. Some of our favorites:
Trial and Triumph — Christian saints and martyrs — don’t miss it!
Beggar’s Beasts and Easter Fire — saints and martyrs for younger children
Island Story — read on Librivox
The Man Who Loved Books
Augustine Came to Kent, Barbara Willard
Son of Charlemagne, Barbara Willard
Minstrel in the Tower
Leif the Lucky
King’s Shadow
The Star and the Sword
Robin Hood, by Roger Lancelyn Green or Howard Pyle (my preference)
Otto of the Silver Hand
The Apple and the Arrow
simple homeMemberWoohoo!! Thanks Jeaninpa! Love the “don’t miss it!” 🙂
jeaninpaParticipantOh, almost forgot. The David McCauley books, Castle and Cathedral also are available on video and are great as well!
simple homeMemberI didn’t know there was video for those. Great idea!
alilacParticipantA couple good picture books for any age, Archers, Alchemists, and 98 Other Medieval Jobs You Might Have Loved or Loathed, The Illustrated Book of Knights.
My dd loves both!
Then there’s Seventh Expert too.
nerakrParticipantMedieval Feast by Aliki is good, too.
TailorMadeParticipantWe loved all the titles that StayingHome and nerakr listed, too. We watched the Macaulay DVDs two or three times after reading the books. They were excellent. Inter library loan helped with those.

simple homeMemberThanks again everyone! This helps me to weed through the suggestions in my literature resource book All Through the Ages. I wish I could use every book recommended in this guide, but then we’d be in the Middle Ages for years. 🙂 Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
