I deserve many “I told you so’s.”  How many times have I heard “trust the process” but still felt the need to have a writing program for security?  Ugh….dd (6th) and I are very ready to ditch Classical Writing.  It’s such a quality program, but we both hate doing it….and she hates grammar (we would need to start season 2 of AG next week already to keep up with the grammar in the writing program).  It’s just too much and I want dd to care about what she writes.  Yesterday I let her skip CW and just write a narration about the character qualities of George Washington Carver (book she’s reading).  We don’t do grades yet, but she asked if I could grade it on how inspiring it was….I was so touched that she cared to make it inspiring (rather than the usual dull grammatical exercises).

So, my question!  How should I finish out 6th grade?  I think my plan is to use Jump In for 7th/8th and teach Essay/Research Paper writing in h.s. I’d like to take a break from AG until next year (she’ll be done with Season 1 next week).  I wish I would have used ILL.  Is it too late to benefit from that?  Could it be used with Jump In next year?  Money wouldn’t be wasted just using some, since I’d use it with ds later.  Or should I just focus on written narrations for the rest of the year?  She’s pretty good with sentence structure, grammar, and spellling (overall).  Here’s a sample of her exact work, if that helps:

WHY I LIKE GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER

I like George Washington Carver because he was willing to stand up in the world, even though he was black.  He didn’t care that some people were prejudice about him, he just kept on trying.  He helped a lot of people, the poor AND the rich.  People always said that he had a kind look in his eyes.  He was loving and generous. He had tons of money that he could have used on himself, but instead he gave it to the people. We will always remember George Washington Carver, and the good that he has done.

Should she be writing more?  Any other suggestions?  She can write something like this daily and it doesn’t take too much time.  I’m not sure what to tell her to do…which is why I’ve wanted a program to hold my hand. Thanks for any suggestions and for being patient with me.  I’m a slow learner with this, and I feel bad that dd has had to put up me:(  Blessings, Gina
